CAKES, buns, sweets ... it was a veritable feast of goodies at Garryhill NS recently, as the school set out its stall in aid of the children of Haiti. The children hosted a cake sale in the school, raising 696.40 for the earthquake victims with the sale of homemade cakes, a guess-the-weight-ofthe-cake competition and a raffle for sweets and cakes in their classrooms. Given that there are only 31 children in the two-teacher school, this was a phenomenal effort and their parents and teachers are immensely proud of them. The money will be sent via an Irish charity to the children of Haiti and the pupils would like to thank everybody who supported their event. School principal Liam Shinnors was not at all surprised at the total raised. “The people of this small community of Garryhill have proven their generosity and goodwill on many occasions in the past and they came out in force in support of this cause,” he said. Coffee morning raises funding for victims of Haiti earthquake FROM APPLE tart to iced buns, the staff canteen tables at Presentation De La Salle Bagenalstown were packed with goodies recently as teachers gave their full support to a very worthy cause. Like so many other schools around the county, the staff were also moved by the plight of the people of Haiti and held a coffee morning to support this worth cause. All gave generously to support victims of the earthquake, with many teachers also donating and baking treats for the coffee morning.
